An ABAP developer’s duties are specialized to address the core operational needs of the aviation sector, which typically uses modules like SAP S/4HANA, SAP Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)/Plant Maintenance (PM), SAP Logistics, and the SAP Aerospace & Defense (A&D) industry solution.
Reporting & Analytics – Developing complex custom reports, often using SAP HANA‑optimized code, for real‑time visibility into operational readiness, aircraft downtime, and financial performance.
Enhancements – Implementing BAPIs, BADIs, and the Enhancement Framework to add client‑specific logic to standard SAP processes in modules like PM (Plant Maintenance), QM (Quality Management), and SD (Sales & Distribution).
Essential ABAP Tools and Technologies Used:
Modern SAP development in the aviation sector is shifting toward the SAP S/4HANA environment, requiring proficiency in both traditional and next‑generation ABAP development tools.
- Object‑Oriented ABAP (OO ABAP) – The standard for all new development, used for clean, reusable, and testable code structures.
- ABAP Development Tools (ADT) in Eclipse – The primary Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for modern S/4HANA development, replacing the older SAP GUI tools (SE38, SE80).
