Job Purpose
The Extrusion Operator/Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and executing production processes to ensure the efficient and high-quality manufacturing of pet food products. This involves maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating state-of-the‑art machines and equipment in the Extrusion, Packing, Meats, Treats & RDF, and Raw Material Handling/Batching lines.

Job Responsibilities- Perform and execute production processes to meet production targets and quality standards.
- Monitor production output and adjust workflows as needed to optimize efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular quality control checks to maintain product quality.
- Coordinate with production team members to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Perform or audit routine maintenance or Basic Equipment Care (BEC) and repairs on production equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate with the maintenance team for resolution.
- Operate machinery and equipment according to standard operating procedures.
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure product consistency and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Conduct inspections and tests on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to verify that quality specifications are met.
- Document quality control findings and initiate corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
- Train team members on safe work practices and emergency procedures.
- Encourage a safety‑first culture among all production staff.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to implement process improvements and streamline workflows.
- Facilitate ongoing learning and development opportunities for new and existing team members.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements relevant to pet food manufacturing.
- Encourage continuous improvement and innovation in production processes.
- Perform other tasks that may be assigned either individually or as part of a committee or team.
- From time to time, you may be directed to realign your efforts with the changing needs of the business.
- A bachelor's degree in food science, engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in food manufacturing as a Production Technician or Extrusion Technician.
- Experience in pet food production is advantageous.
- Strong experience with extrusion technology.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate effectively with all members of the team from various backgrounds.
- Excellent organizational skills and profound ability to schedule multiple activities and resources for efficient and effective utilization.
- Willing to work in New Zealand.
- Equipment‑specific training, Basic Manufacturing certification preferred but not required.
- Forklift License, First Aid Certification, Food Safety Certification (e.g., HACCP) preferred but not required.
