THE MISSION
Sonzai Labs is building social‑first mobile games. You’ll set the visual direction for two flagship titles: TeleMafia – a Telegram‑based social mafia RPG where group chats become crime families; Alter Ego – an anime‑style game focused on character, narrative, and collection. Your work will shape how players see, feel, and share these worlds.
Mobile Game Art Director (2D / Anime‑Chibi)Own the end‑to‑end art direction across UI/UX, characters, and animation—and drive it into production quality that ships.
You will:
- Establish and maintain the style bible (color, type, composition, motion language).
- Lead UI/UX art for mobile‑native, social‑friendly flows (onboarding, gacha, upgrade, live events).
- Partner with game design and front‑end teams (Unity, Next.js / Telegram Mini App) to turn vision into shippable screens.
- Direct and unblock external illustrators, animators, and UI artists to keep a cohesive look.
- Get hands‑on for hero screens, character lineups, event art, and promotional assets.
- Build and guide animation pipelines (Spine / Live2D / After Effects / Unity 2D) that scale with content.
- A recognizable, kawaii/chibi‑forward identity across TeleMafia and Alter Ego.
- UI kits, iconography, FX, and motion guidelines for rapid content drops.
- Character, enemy, and collectible sets that read clearly at mobile scale.
- Social‑centric UI patterns that feel native to chat (Telegram) and modern F2P.
- Production‑ready files, handoff specs, and review rituals to keep quality high and velocity higher.
- Released titles showing mobile game art direction on Android/iOS.
- Deep understanding of UI/UX for touch and F2P games.
- Fluency with 2D animation workflows (Spine, Live2D, After Effects, or Unity 2D).
- A sharp eye for anime / chibi / kawaii aesthetics and polished social‑game visuals.
- A portfolio that shows both vision (style systems) and craft (production assets).
- Ability to collaborate in our Jakarta office.
- Experience with Telegram Mini Apps or chat‑based game UX.
- Heuristics from games like Genshin, Cookie Run, Arknights, Nikke (as reference, not replicas).
- Comfortable directing remote artists across time zones.
- Familiarity with modern art pipelines (versioned style bibles, design tokens, localization).
- Engines/Front‑end: Unity, Next.js (Telegram Mini App)
- Animation: Spine / Live2D / After Effects / Unity 2D
- Workflow: Figma, Adobe Suite/Clip Studio; clear reviews and fast feedback loops
- Partner Teams: Game Design, Unity FE, Mini App FE, LiveOps, Marketing
- Set the visual standard for two ambitious, social‑first IPs.
