Mechanical Materials Engineer
KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) group is looking for a Mechanical Materials Engineer to support the Abadi LNG project, one of the largest projects in Asia. This project will provide front‑end design (FEED) for onshore liquefied natural gas facilities & will have a peak production capacity target of 9.5 million tons per annum of LNG and 150 million standard cubic feet per day of pipeline gas. The Abadi LNG project has been designated a project of strategic importance by the Indonesian government.
The Mechanical Materials Engineer will lead the material selection study, develop a suitable corrosion control strategy and implement a corrosion monitoring philosophy for the Abadi Project. This role will develop and update engineering guidelines, specifications and best practices within metallurgy, welding, coatings and corrosion control for the project.
Responsibilities:- Conduct erosion / corrosion modeling / prediction / assessment studies using the latest software program for services in the oil and gas industry
- Study and develop Material Selection Philosophy (MSP), Material Selection Diagram (MSD) and Material Selection Report (MSR) during the concept, pre‑FEED, FEED and detail engineering phases of the project
- Review related detailed design specifications and drawings, submitted by contractors and consulting engineers for compliance with design basis, specifications, codes, standards and industry practices
- Review and endorse consultant/contractor design and coordinate the material and corrosion design review, evaluate options and select the best techno‑economic solutions
- Provide technical support related to material and corrosion to the project during concept, pre‑FEED, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, testing, installation, commissioning and start‑up stages of the project
- Advise corrosion monitoring product specification, material selection, identifying monitoring locations, selection criteria for the periodic inspection of facilities covering both offshore assets in upstream, midstream & downstream oil & gas, LNG, refinery and petrochemical facilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical / Mechanical engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in materials and corrosion engineering in the oil & gas industry with a premier engineering consultant or oil & gas company
- Working knowledge of international design codes, standards and company standards and procedures and design software packages such as Predict, ECE5, Hydrocor, and Norsok M506 etc
- Highly proficient with relevant industry standards (API, NACE, ISO, NORSOK, DNV, ASME, ASTM, etc.) as well as design and fabrication requirements for oil & gas projects
- Proven ability with material selection, evaluating corrosion control strategies and implementing corrosion monitoring techniques covering both offshore assets in upstream, midstream & downstream oil & gas, refinery and petrochemical facilities
- Fully familiar with corrosion problems associated with projects for tubing & X‑Mas trees, pipelines, valves, piping, vessels & exchangers and rotating equipment in the oil & gas industry
- Experienced in coordinating with expert contractor/vendor representatives during contractor selection, drawings review and start‑up phases
- Strong technical, planning, communication, presentation and reporting skills
