Product designers are responsible for the look and feel of the furniturewe use every day. They’re tasked with creating new pieces that are bothaesthetically pleasing and functional, while also ensuring that thesedesigns can be mass-produced at a reasonable cost.Furniture designersmust have an eye for detail and an understanding of human anatomy andphysiology. They must also be able to work well in a teamenvironment—they rely on engineers, woodworkers, metal workers,fabricators, etc., to help bring their ideas to life.
What You Will Do- Carry out research to help develop ideas.
- Produce new designs, or improve existing ones
- Creating sketches and drawings of new designs using software such asAutoCAD or SolidWorks.
- Meeting to discuss needs and preferences and recommending materials,colors, and styles that will meet their goals.
- Take into account size, shape, ergonomics and production methodswhen producing design ideas.
- Meeting with suppliers to select materials that meet the designer’srequirements for quality and cost.
- Developing a thorough understanding of current trends in style sonew designs will be desirable to consumers.
- Reviewing existing furniture designs to identify opportunities forimprovement or change.
- Creating models of new designs for testing in physical simulationssuch as ergonomic studies such as sitting positions in chairs.
- 5 years professional experience in furniture design.
- creativity and practical ability.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, 3ds Max, or similar software
- Strong portfolio of previous work.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
