Position: Extrusion Operator/Technician

Required Minimum Hours: 40 hours/week

JOB PURPOSE:

The Extrusion Operator/Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and executing production processes to ensure the efficient and high-quality manufacturing of pet food products. This involves maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and operating state-of-the-art machines and equipment in the Extrusion, Packing, Meats, Treats & RDF, and Raw Material Handling/Batching lines.

Job Responsibilities:

Production Operations:

  • Perform and execute production processes to meet production targets and quality standards.
  • Monitor production output and adjust workflows as needed to optimize efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular quality control checks to maintain product quality.
  • Coordinate with production team members to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.

Equipment Maintenance and Operation:

  • Perform or audit routine maintenance or Basic Equipment Care (BEC) and repairs on production equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate with the maintenance team for resolution.
  • Operate machinery and equipment according to standard operating procedures.

Quality Control and Assurance:

  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure product consistency and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Conduct inspections and tests on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to verify that quality specifications are met.
  • Document quality control findings and initiate corrective actions as needed.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Train team members on safe work practices and emergency procedures.
  • Encourage a safety-first culture among all production staff.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and streamline workflows.

Professional Development:

  • Facilitate ongoing learning and development opportunities for new and existing team members.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements relevant to pet food manufacturing.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and innovation in production processes.

Ad hoc:

  • Perform other tasks that may be assigned either individually or as part of a committee or team.
  • From time to time, you may be directed to realign your efforts with the changing needs of the business.

Job Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in food science, engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in food manufacturing as a Production Technician or Extrusion Technician.
  • Experience in pet food production is advantageous.
  • Strong experience with extrusion technology.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate effectively with all members of the team from various backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills and profound ability to schedule multiple activities and resources for efficient and effective utilization.
  • Willing to work in New Zealand.

Required Training & Certifications:

  • Equipment-specific training, Basic Manufacturing certification preferred but not required.
  • Forklift License, First Aid Certification, Food Safety Certification (e.g., HACCP) preferred but not required.
