Summary:
The IB Librarian plays a key role in managing the school library and promoting inquiry-based learning in alignment with the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy.
In addition to overseeing physical and digital collections, the position also contributes to enhancing students' English proficiency through reading programs, literacy activities, and academic support.
Collaboration with the Head of School, teaching faculty, IB Coordinators, and Residential Assistants is essential to ensure a whole-school approach to literacy, language development, and academic integrity
Responsibilities
- Manage the library's physical and digital collections, ensuring resources support the IB curriculum across all programmes.
- Guide students and teachers in effective research skills, referencing, and use of academic databases.
- Support the development of information literacy and critical thinking skills in line with the IB Learner Profile.
- Organize reading programs, book talks, and literacy events that encourage a love of reading.
- Maintain accurate cataloguing, circulation, and inventory systems.
- Support students in improving their English reading, writing, and communication skills through literacy-based activities.
- Provide individual or small-group assistance for students who require additional English language support.
- Collaborate with English teachers to integrate library resources into English learning activities.
- Encourage students to use English confidently in both academic and daily communication through reading and library engagement.
- Work closely with the Head of School, teaching faculty, and Residential Assistants to align library and literacy initiatives with curriculum goals.
- Maintain accurate records of library operations, reading programs, and student support activities.
- Organize and manage library documentation and reports.
- Prepare accountability reports related to library services and English literacy support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, English Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in library management or English instruction, preferably at the high school level.
- Strong proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
- Knowledge and experience in cataloguing, circulation systems, and resource organization.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, school leaders, and residential staff.
- Strong organizational skills, including filing and archiving.
