A Game Developer builds interactive experiences using Unreal Engine, focusing on gameplay features, tools, and performance. The role combines programming, engine knowledge, and a sense of player experience. Depending on the team size, the developer may work on core gameplay, UI, networking, or visualization projects (e.g. simulation, training, or virtual showrooms).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop game features, mechanics, and systems in Unreal Engine using Blueprints and/or C++.
- Implement player interactions, character abilities, pickups, quests, or level logic according to design specs.
- Work closely with designers and artists to integrate 3D assets, animations, VFX, and sound into the game.
- Optimize scenes and code to maintain target FPS on the required platform (PC, console, VR).
- Integrate physics, AI behavior trees, and animation blueprints where needed.
- Debug gameplay issues, fix crashes, and improve stability.
- Use version control (Git, Perforce) to collaborate in a multi-developer environment.
- Contribute to tooling or editor extensions that improve productivity of the content team.
Required Skills and Tools
- Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine (level setup, Blueprints, materials, packaging).
- C++ for Unreal (classes, UPROPERTY, UObject lifecycle) or willingness to deepen skills.
- Understanding of real-time rendering concepts, collisions, and physics.
- Ability to read and implement design documents.
- Basic 3D knowledge (what a skeletal mesh is, what UVs are, what LODs do).
- Familiarity with source control and branching.
Preferred Background
- Degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Interactive Media, or equivalent experience.
- Portfolio or GitHub showing completed game features, prototypes, or tools.
- Experience with multiplayer, replication, or networking in Unreal is a plus.
- Experience in non-gaming real-time apps (ArchViz, training sims, digital twins) is also relevant.
