Hatfield is seeking to hire a national expert for the position of Intermediate Biodiversity Specialist to join our technical teams based out of our Bogor office to help us build a sustainable future for our company and country. The ideal candidate for this position will contribute to develop specific project deliverable based on tasks assigned by a Project Manager. The Biodiversity Specialist is expected to provide a suitable level of technical competency on the subject area(s) for which he/she is responsible including to contribute to assisting project managers in supporting project implementation within the the technical teams. His/her role includes supporting proposal development, project implementation, and may include coordination and supervision of other staff and/or sub-consultants.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct studies related to terrestrial ecology, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, including conducting field surveys as a field team member or field coordinator as assigned by the Project Manager and / or Project Director.
  • Contribute to design and prepare of survey programs and methods including field equipment, determining locations and rationales, and field documentation.
  • Responsible for data management during field work, which includes, but is not limited to, compiling the data survey results; i.e., tally sheets, observation sheets, questionnaires result and photos, checking field data for completeness and consistency, organizing hard copies and uploading soft copies of all data (and datasheets) to appropriate data storage areas after every field program, and proceed analysis of preserved samples.
  • Conduct data analysis on biological field data, which includes relevant analysis related to species screening based on conservation status, habitat type and threat identification, species identification, research on species or habitats of concern, and calculating relevant biodiversity indices and statistics.
  • Assisting the Project Manager and other team specialists in project preparation, which includes work plans, schedules, budgets, technical activities, and coordination of technical staff and sub-consultants to ensure efficient use of corporate resources, preparation and editing of documents (e.g., proposals, reports, and geomatic outputs).
  • Implement a robust QA/QC process in every project step (e.g., data quality, preparing workplan, data compilation, and literature review) to meet the project scope of work and PTHI standards.
  • Carry out every task given by always prioritizing occupational safety & health, security, confidentiality, and being environmentally friendly.
  • Apply the Hatfield style or other style guide required for each writing contribution.
  • Work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams to undertake impact assessments, due diligence projects, and other environmental studies.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, forestry, and biology or a relevant field. A Master’s degree from a reputable university will be an advantage.
  • Minimum five years of experience involved in projects related to environmental, social, and health impact assessments (ESHIA/AMDAL), environmental and social due diligence, environmental management and mitigation, and other services, preferably in a consulting environment and with a demonstrable track record of increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience with national regulations regarding biodiversity impact assessments and biodiversity safeguard documents which include critical habitat assessment, ecosystem services assessment, biodiversity management plan and biodiversity action plan.
  • Experience in implementing projects compliant with international standards or safeguards, i.e., International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards and World Bank (WB) Environmental and Social Framework —especially IFC PS6 and WB ESS6, and the accompanying guidance note.
  • Experience working in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork, and an ability/interest to work in the field is preferable, occasionally in remote locations for extended periods of time.
Other Assets/Skills
  • Having a valid AMDAL team member certificate would be an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently, sometimes remotely for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, sometimes to remote areas, across Indonesia.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to provide sound judgement when problem solving.
  • Think innovatively, effectively, and critically to provide optimal work results.
  • General computer skills (MS Office suite), particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability and willingness to learn on the job, multi-task, willing to travel frequently on short notice and perform tasks outside the usual job scope.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail. Entrepreneurial skills and mindset would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication in Bahasa Indonesia and English (oral and written – technical and scientific writing).
